“We firmly believe that food is medicine and that eating delicious whole nourishing foods will lead to a healthier you. It is also important that food doesn’t cost the earth. Which is why we use low food miles, locally grown, seasonal produce which is also how we can ensure that food is at it’s prime we serve it to you.”  Wholesomeness

Located on Brisbane’s north side, in the suburb of Grange, Wholesomeness Café is the new business venture of owner’s, Ben and Georgia Limmer. What started out as a health food delivery service has now turned into a flourishing health café, catering and health coaching business where patrons can still order all of their favourite homemade meals.

Their café menu is fully gluten free and even features the popular, vegan sweet treat that we all know and love, Coco Whip. First up, smoothies! The Big Green Booster smoothie contains blended avocado, cucumber, dates, spinach, kale and coconut water, while the Choc Almond Decadence smoothie is made from a combination of cacao powder, almonds, banana, almond milk and dates to add natural sweetening.

For breakfast, we ordered the Mushroom Omelette with manchego, spinach, relish and house baked sourdough made from tapioca and brown rice. The sourdough alone was enough to warrant a return. The All Day Breakfast dish, which might I add was only $12, included a generous serving of pulled pork with a sweet potato hash cake, spinach, eggs and relish. Superb value and packed full of flavour!

As most of you know firsthand, coffee is the most addictive drug in the world and you can’t deny the love we have for the massive energy high you get after a cup of the delicious brew. But as the saying goes, what goes up must come down, and with caffeine you inevitably come crashing down hard. But, alas, there’s a new caffeinated beverage that’ll help you overcome this.

Before today, I’d never heard of, or at least paid much attention to MCT oils. Curiosity got the better of me, and I soon found out that Wholesomness’s Bullet Proof coffee (inspired by David Asprey and Tibetan butter tea) is a sure-fire way to get through the day. Espresso, from local roasters The Odyssey Project, combined with MCT oil and butter. If you’re not a crazy fitness guru, you may be asking, what on earth is MCT oil? Put simply, this is a medium chain triglyceride (medium chain fatty acid) that’s produced by machine to separate the components of coconut oil. After the fractionation process is complete, the top component becomes known as MCT oil.

By adding this oil to coffee, the caffeine binds to the fatty acids, releasing caffeine into the body gradually instead of giving us that much loved energy spike and dreaded caffeine crash. One cup of this Bullet Proof coffee will boost brain function and you’ll be on your merry little way to conquering the world!

Along with their miracle making coffee, Wholesomeness also offers a range of ready-made meals, making it even easier to eliminate processed foods from your diets. You have the choice to purchase them in store or conveniently have them delivered to your front door. Their Moroccan Lamb Meatball Tagine is a must try! To place your orders or see their current menu and meal plans, please visit their website, www.wholesomeness.com.au.

Wholesomeness is open for breakfast seven days and served dinner, Thursday to Saturday.
