Formerly a back street car park in West End, Habitat has been transformed into a foodie hub and live music hotspot. Australian Rugby player, Scott Higginbotham and business partner Malcolm Watts are the faces behind the venture. Habitat’s sharp, modern design with high set ceilings and raw timber tables has been the talk of the town since opening it’s doors just five months ago.
Habitat offers very reasonable priced meals for breakfast, lunch and dinner and is somewhere you can go to celebrate a special occasion dinner without the price tag of a fine dining restaurant. By night this venue transforms into a live music destination with musicians like The Fonoti Brothers showcasing their talents. Their cocktails, which I am yet to get my hands on, look fabulously exotic and won’t break the bank (stay tuned for my cocktail review). Habitat is also licensed from 10am, so it’s the perfect spot for a champagne brunch.
Featured on the specials menu was the house smoked salmon, poached eggs and garlic focaccia with beetroot relish and truffle hollandaise. I didn’t bother to look through the rest of the menu after hearing the waiter rattle off the ingredients of the dish. The rolls of salmon were fresh, flavourful and had a strong smoky flavour just the way smoked salmon should be and the beetroot relish had just the right amount of sweetness. The chef’s couldn’t have got this dish more perfect.
